It’s the weekend!
So I was too stressed out to write anything the entire weekend. I’m feeling better now so I’ll get to writing I suppose.
Friday
Like I mentioned before, Manda and I went to IKEA. I know this is probably the 4th time I went there since arriving, but I only buy a few things at a time. Of course, we had lunch and I had some delicious meatballs and a princessbakelse. Then Manda and I went around and found some things to spruce up my apartment as it currently a ton of white walls and blank space. Not excellent. We ended up getting a cute sidetable in black, a few organizing boxes, a ficus plant for said table, and 5 pots with grass for my window sill. It’s going to be seriously cute when I’m done. We cleaned up my room when we got back and everything looks really nice…still waiting on taking photos until Manda leaves. Her stuff is EVERYWHERE. Oh. But of course, as soon as we got back from IKEA, the light bulb burnt out so we had to hurry to the grocery store to buy a replacement, as well as a few other necessary items.
As for being stressed about school and such, I decided to stick with my class only because I can’t find any replacement courses. I figure I can catch up on reading the course book in ENGLISH this weekend and be fine. At least for the first couple weeks, I can do independent study on anything I don’t understand in class and see if my professor can’t find a tutor or some other way to help me. Maybe he’ll let me answer the test in English? I don’t know.
Saturday
We were on a mission today - Buy my school books, show Manda the castle and buy our train tickets to go visit the biggest animal park/zoo in Sweden! Alright! We went to the bookstore and found my books…950kr ($130) for 2 economics books. Sick…bought those and while they had postcards there (which I desperately need to send) they were all pretty ugly and passed them up. We checked out the castle and me having been there a few times already wasn’t all that interested. However, someone was having a wedding there! Wow how cool! I can only imagine how much that must have cost. While we had planned on going to the train station to buy tickets, Manda forgot the information she wrote down back at my apartment sooo nevermind that.
Back at my apartment I put up photos and I still have one massively empty wall. I’m contemplating either buying some prints from a photographer friend of mine, getting a large bit of fabric to go down the center of the wall vertically, or buying a large canvas and painting…not sure just yet.
Sunday
I had planned on being all academic today but I woke up with a bad headache so that stopped me in my tracks. By the time I was feeling better, it was time for fika with Sarah and her friend, Julia. We all met at Stora Torget and while we planned on going to the posh Stockholm’s Nation for a late brunch, they were closed so we ended up going to the Stork (a cafe I’ve been to 3 times now haha). We all hung out from 2 until 5 (fika is a multi-hour sort of deal) and it was really fun. Julia is a masters student from Germany, but she studied abroad in Sweden a few years ago as well. We also talked about this culture festival this weekend and Sarah said she’d let me know about when we could all meet up to go! Awesome. Julia had to leave a bit early to go to the movies, but Sarah talked with Manda and I for a long time about the education system in America as that’s what she’s studying in school right now. It’s hard to realize how complicated it is until you actually spell it out for someone who has never experienced it. As we were leaving, it began to pour (typical) and Manda and I were drenched when we got home. We decided on pizza for dinner and it was delicious. Now I’ve got some serious studying to do!
